The Legal Position

Since 2022 all new home chargers have to be smart and meet the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles standard. A non compliant charger cannot be legally fitted as a new installation. We only fit units that meet the current standard.

For a new home installation, yes. Since 2022 home and workplace charge points sold in the UK must have smart functions, including default off peak charging times. An older unit already on the wall can stay, but any replacement will be a smart one.

Does a smart EV charger need wifi to work?

No. If the wifi drops out the charger still charges the car, it just loses app control and scheduling until it reconnects. Most units keep the last schedule stored. If your wifi does not reach the charger, a booster or a wired connection sorts it.
